High School
Tenney School Live is an accredited online high school designed for students who need a personalized, one-to-one learning experience. With flexible schedules and individualized instruction, our program helps students thrive academically and emotionally. With our tailored program, students can thrive in a learning environment that meets their unique learning styles and academic goals. We offer a flexible environment as well for enrollment types which will later be expanded upon in the below ‘Enrollment Types’ section.
The Curriculum
In addition to our diverse range of classes, Tenney School Live offers elective options that cater to a wide variety of interests and talents, providing high school students with the opportunity to delve into their passions beyond the standard curriculum. Whether it’s exploring the realms of creative arts such as painting and drawing or engaging in hands-on experiences in subjects like music and gaming, our students can truly immerse themselves in their chosen fields. Moreover, our online students can actively collaborate and connect with their peers through interactive ‘labs’ specially designed to enrich their learning journey. These virtual labs span across a spectrum of subjects, creating a dynamic and interactive platform for students to engage with course materials and communicate with one another. By actively participating in these activities, students not only expand their knowledge but also foster essential teamwork and communication skills within a supportive online environment.
Our one-to-one model makes our school able to cater to many different academic levels for students. More specific curriculum information can be found on our curriculum page. We categorize our one-to-one instruction into 3 main sections:
- Honors
- Standard
- English Language Learner (ESL)
We determine a student’s academic standing based on their stanine level, which ranges from 1 to 9. This level is a rough average of the student’s percentile, taking into account both standardized test scores and their previous GPA. As part of our admissions process, we ask families to provide the last two years of report cards and any standardized testing results. After evaluating these documents, we assign a stanine level between 1 and 9. If a family does not have standardized test scores, we can conduct the Standford-10 Abbreviated Test to gauge the student’s academic level. The chart below illustrates how we categorize these levels into their corresponding stanine level.
Honors
These students are often in the gifted range and are looking for a curriculum that can quickly adjust to their pace. Students in our honors classes will generally move through the curriculum at an accelerated pace.
Standard
Students at this level work at a more standard pace. The one-to-one class is able to speed up if a student is catching on quickly, or slow down if the student is stuck on a concept.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Through our one-to-one program, we’re able to work with students who have English as a second language. We are a certified ESL school based out of the Houston area.
Student Services
Our high school students have access to a range of student services provided by our dedicated counselors. With the goal of ensuring your student is well-prepared for their future endeavors, our counselors are ready to guide them towards success, whether that be pursuing higher education or entering the workforce. Rest assured, our counselors are committed to finding the optimal path forward for your student.
Beginning in junior year, students will be required to take college prep with our counselor: David Ross. The goal of this class is to prepare students for their next step after graduation.
