Middle School

Tenney School Live is an accredited online middle school designed for students who need a personalized, one-to-one learning environment. Our flexible schedules and individualized instruction help students thrive academically while reducing stress. With our tailored program, students can thrive in a learning environment that meets their unique learning styles and academic goals. We offer a flexible environment as well for enrollment types which will later be expanded upon in the below ‘Enrollment Types’ section.

The Curriculum

At Tenney School Live, we offer a wide range of classes that middle school students can choose from. Furthermore, our elective offerings cater to a variety of interests and talents, allowing students to explore their passions beyond the core curriculum. From creative arts like painting and drawing to hands-on experiences in subjects like music and gaming. Additionally, our online students have the opportunity to collaborate and connect with their peers through interactive ‘labs’ designed to enhance their learning experience. These virtual labs cover a range of subjects, providing a dynamic and engaging platform for students to interact with course material and each other. By participating in these activities, students not only expand their knowledge but also develop important teamwork and communication skills in a supportive online environment.

Our one-to-one model makes our school able to cater to many different academic levels for students. More specific curriculum information can be found on our curriculum page. We categorize our one-to-one instruction into 4 main sections:

  • Honors
  • Standard
  • English Language Learner (ESL)

We generally assign a student’s academic level based upon their stanine level. The stanine level is a 1 – 9 system that is an average approximate of a student’s percentile based on both standardized test scores as well as previous GPA. In our admissions process, we require families to submit the last two years of report cards as well as any standardized testing scores. We evaluate those documents and assign a stanine level 1 – 9. If a family does not have standardized test scores, we can administer the Standford-10 Abbreviated Test to assess the student’s academic level. The chart below showcases how we break these levels into their according stanine level:

Honors

These students are often in the gifted range and are looking for a curriculum that can quickly adjust to their pace. Students in our honors classes will generally move through the curriculum at an accelerated pace.

Standard

Students at this level work at a more standard pace. The one-to-one class is able to speed up if a student is catching on quickly, or slow down if the student is stuck on a concept.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Through our one-to-one program, we’re able to work with students who have English as a second language. We are a certified ESL school based out of the Houston area.

Student Services

Our Middle School students have a number of student services through our counselors. Our counselors’ goal is to make sure your student is prepared for whatever is coming next. For some families, that may be a transition into in-person learning. For others it could be getting ready to continue the online schooling journey into high school. Whatever the case may be, our counselors are ready to help!

Furthermore, it’s important to note that a core feature of our middle schooling program is executive functioning. While student’s are learning from the comfort of home, we want to prepare them to be the best possible student they can be! This means fostering independence and drive for all of our students.
